Spring
On this bitterly cold day, I am thinking about Spring. The daffodils have started blooming and we have had some wonderfully warm days. The Bumper got to play outside two days this week. On the first day I took her out, it took a little coaxing but once she felt the warm breeze she was hooked. Everything about the backyard delighted her: the stray cats lounging in the sun, the remnants of last years garden (the compost pile especially fascinated her), the bright yellow daffodils lifting their heads to the sun, and the seemingly endless sticks to be picked up. Then she saw IT. A huge pile of sand and dirt left by the workmen who repaired the furnace. My little Bumper fell in love. She slid in the dirt, she climbed the dirt and she stamped in the dirt.
On the second day however, she came into her own. She took her little pail and shovel, and while I tried to put the yard and garden in some semblance of order, and she dug and dumped over and over until she was covered in dirt from her eyebrows to her toes, and some places I didn't even know dirt could go. Bath time last night was so much fun, in went a dirty little Bumper and out came a clean, incredibly tired little Bumper who went right to sleep. This mama couldn't be more pleased. I can not wait until true Spring and then Sumer when we will have many more days like yesterday!

We are the Body
A new head of the Roman Catholic Church has been elected. Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio has become Pope Francis - The Holy Father and Bishop of Rome. He is the first non-European Holy Father, the first from the Americas, and the first Jesuit. He addressed the crowd dressed simply in the white cassock. His speech was both welcoming and humble. First and foremost asked that the people pray for him. He will need all our prayers. My prayer is that he will be guided by the Holy Spirit, listen always to God, and do his best to follow Christ closely.
God Bless

A Rainy Morning
A week ago I looked out my window and I saw this:
and this:
and this:
so I decided to do this:
These scrumptious beauties were the result!
These were the best pancakes I have ever made. I did not even miss the eggs, and milk.
Today looks like it will be the same kind of a day. I find cooking with my 2yr old to a sheer delight and I can't wait to do so again.
I hope where ever you are is warm and dry.

Trying Something New
This past Monday I did something I have never done before: I baked my very first loaf of bread from scratch. It turned out so well that I don't have any pictures to post because it was eaten very quickly by friends and family. I am proud of myself for just taking the plunge and doing it. If I had know how easy it was to bake bread I would have done it long before now! I can not wait to make my second loaf this weekend.:)

P.S. No bread machine involved!

The Pilgrim Church
Yesterday Pope Benedict XVI announced his decision to step down from the throne of Peter. I heard about it from a friend and my first reaction was one of shock and disbelief. I thought she was joking, but she was not. I didn't even know the Pope could resign; I assumed, and I do not think I am alone in this, that once elected Pope the person pretty much had to stay in the office until death. Apparently not, although the last Pope to resign did so 600 years ago.
The Bumper, who is 2yrs old, most adequately described how our family felt, when while watching the news of his announcement she turned to me and said, "Papa?"
I told her "Yes that is the Pope."
"Papa," she repeated and started to cry.
"I sad," she said.
When I asked her why she was sad all the Bumper did was repeat "Papa."
We are sad, but we trust that the Pope is doing his best to follow God's will for his life.
In the end that is all any of us as Christians can do.
So here is my prayer for Benedict XVI - May the peace of Christ be with you as you continue to follow the Lord and to serve his people in prayer and contemplation.

Snowy Bliss
The weather here has alternated between unseasonably warm and really cold. My little bumper insisted I take her out to play the moment she saw the snow. I am very glad I did because by afternoon it was gone.
It is moments like these that I feel very blessed.
